King Edwards Five Ways Easter Booster Courses

Project Aim:

To project manage and staff 2 weeks’ worth of booster courses for years 10, 11, 12 and 13 across a range of subjects including Maths, English, Science, History, Geography and languages.

Project Structure:

Exam central was responsible for recruiting all staff to deliver the classes as well as timetabling, project management and evaluation of the 2 week project. Over 120 students attended the courses with the average group size being 5 students. The classes were delivered at King Edward Five Ways School.

Project Outcome:

Feedback was recorded for all sessions relating to quality of teaching, enjoyment of sessions and relevance of course content. An average score of 4.62/5 was recorded by the students.

St Augustine’s Catholic High School (Maths Foundation intervention)

January 2013 – June 2013
Project Aim:

To teach GCSE foundation maths to a targeted small group of Y11 students in preparation for their examination.

Project Structure:

A maths specialist was deployed at St Augustine’s for 2 days per week to work with two groups of 5 students, preparing them for their foundation GCSE maths exam in June 2013.

Project Outcome:

3 students passed the January sitting of the exam. The rest of the students are awaiting their results in August 2013 – good luck to all involved.

Stuart Bathurst Catholic High School Maths and English

September 2012 – March 2013
Project Aim:

To provide additional support to 30 Year 8 students with their basic English and Maths skills.

Project Structure:

Every Wednesday afternoon all 30 students were provided with one hour of English and one hour of Maths support which was delivered by specialist tutors from Exam Central. In total 6 members of staff were used which allowed group sizes to be small.

Project Outcomes:

19/30 of the students progressed their levels of progress in both English and Maths during the project. Feedback from students was that the enjoyed the project and felt more skilled and confident as a result.

Exam Central Case Studies

ARK Tindal Primary School Numeracy and Literacy Booster Sessions

April 2013 - Present
Project Aim:

To enhance the numeracy and literacy skills of a targeted group of 15 Year 6 students, further preparing them for secondary education.

Project Structure:

3 members of staff from Exam central attend the School on three afternoons a week after school for an hour. Pupils work in small groups of 5-6 students and focus primarily on reading, writing, speaking and numeracy. The tutors act as positive role models for the primary School children and will aim to inspire them about education.

Project Outcomes:

Feedback from staff to date has showed the targeted students have become more confident, inspired and increased their attainment levels throughout the duration of the project.
